I’d never actually made Chex Mix before, but my grandmother regularly gives tins of it at Christmastime, and it’s a staple in many homes at the holidays, so I decided to give it a try this year!
What I loved most about this recipe is that it’s easily adaptable. Make a small batch for your family to enjoy or triple the recipe to have plenty of gifts for neighbors, family and friends. You can also use different combinations of Chex cereal, a single nut instead of mixed nuts, etc.
No matter how you customize it, it’s a tasty non-sweet treat for the holidays at a time when sweets seem to rule the day!
**adapted from Chex
Ingredients:
- 3 cups corn Chex cereal
- 3 cups rice Chex cereal
- 3 cups wheat Chex cereal
- 2 cup mixed nuts
- 1 cup bite-size pretzels
- 1 cup original bagel chips broken into 1-inch pieces
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
Directions:
Preheat oven to 250°F.
In large bowl, combine cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips. Add butter to a 9×13 pan and put in oven to melt. Once melted, stir in seasonings until well mixed. Add cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated.
Continue baking for one hour, stirring regularly.
Remove from oven and let cool. Store in an airtight container in the pantry.
