101 Days of Christmas: New Pajamas on Christmas Eve

new pjs on christmas eve

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is to give the girls new Christmas pajamas each year, which they get to to open on Christmas Eve after church. They look forward to this “first gift”, and it makes for cute pictures on Christmas morning as they come down the stairs with crazy hair and sleepy eyes!

We typically get our pajamas at Old Navy (I especially love their fleece nightgowns, which the girls wear all winter long), but you’ll find cute pajamas at a variety of retailers. We’ve even been known to do hand-me-downs for the toddlers among us, and I wouldn’t be opposed to buying nicer used brands such as Gymboree or Hanna Anderson at a consignment shop, although it’d be a little harder to find matching or coordinating sets that way!

Do you buy special Christmas pajamas for your kids? What is your favorite brand or style?

Join us as we celebrate 101 Days of Christmas with new DIY projects, gift ideas, traditions and more every day from now through Christmas!

My step mother always buys the grandkids new PJs for Christmas.  It works out great because we celebrate with them a couple days before the actual holiday.

Although some years I don’t always love her choice, I can’t complain with a free set each year.

So fun — are there other grandkids besides your kids? Do they all get matching pjs?

Instead of giving the pj’s on Christmas eve – I started giving my kids their christmas pj’s on St Nick Day (Dec 6th). It makes so they can wear them more during the holiday season, and less candy and toys for them that day.

This is a great idea — what a fun tradition!

We totally do this!! ha ha! and I’m 34 years old! My mom still buys us Pjs and we buy them for both she and my dad. With the next generation starting – it’s going to be fun to keep the tradition going. The best are the handmade made ones all matching ;D

I love that you buy them for your parents as well — so fun!

We do this too!  Although last year our 5 year old burst into tears when he opened his and started a rant about how we always get him PJs and he hates PJs.  Such a contrast to our 2 year old who took the paper off and was SO EXCITED that she’s gotten a box!  (We let her enjoy her box for a few minutes and then told her the real present was inside of it and she was thrilled with the PJs.)

LOL, that made me giggle. You never know what’s going to come out of their mouths sometimes!

We do pajamas too, although earlier in the season, and also include a Christmas ornament tailored to their likes or hobbies.  My son doesn’t really wear his all that much so I’m trying just pajama pants this year.  We’ll see how it goes.

It’s funny because my oldest sleeps in just a t-shirt, all year long, but the fashionista in her still can’t resist cute pajamas, LOL!
