I highly recommend having 2 washers and 2 dryers, it makes life much easier. I have 4 kids a husband and my brother lives with me plus a home daycare. I would be lost without the extra set! I also do not allow clothing in my kid’s rooms, that way I don’t have to worry about it all ending up on the floor. I have shelving outside our bathroom to hold clothing that is worn daily, plus shelving in the laundry room for extras.

2 machines for one average sized family does not make sense at all – not for space and not for the pocket book.  It makes sense in your situation because you run a home daycare.

One good idea is to put a laundry basket just outside the bathroom to collect all soiled clothes right after finishing the baths.

We use to have a family closet when we lived in a larger house and I loved it. With 6 kids, laundry is a never ending chore. I try to do a load or two every day. Falling behind is dangerous.

My children always leave their dirty laundry outside of their bedroom door when they go to sleep each night as I don’t have a basket or hamper in either of their rooms. After I am done tucking everyone in I take the armload of dirty downstairs with me and put it in the laundry room where I have a hamper to be filled and/or a load to be put in. As a bonus, it is one less thing to pick up off of their floors each day (because there is always plenty to pick up!!) :o)
