101 Days of Christmas: Easy, Decadent Oreo Truffles

These Oreo truffles are counted among my very favorite treats; crushed oreos & cream cheese make a delicious filling with a hard chocolate shell.

They are rich and decadent, but oh so easy to make!

These have to be refrigerated, so they’re not always a great gift choice, but they make a wonderful hostess gift or dessert to serve at a party. Or you could make a batch and keep them in your fridge for yourself to help you get through the rest of the Christmas season!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pkg. Oreos
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 16 oz. semi-sweet baking chocolate

Directions:

Separate Oreos and scrape filling into a separate bowl. Finely crush cookies.

Mix the cookie crumbs with the softened cream cheese.

Shape mixture into 1-inch balls. Hint: Use a melon baller for uniformity!

Melt the chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler. Dip Oreo balls in chocolate and then set on wax paper.

Refrigerate for 1 hour. Store in the fridge or freezer.

May be a dumb question, but do you put the oreo filling back in when you combine the cookie crumbs and cream cheese? I would think so, but if I must just eat the filling by itself, I could be convinced.

We don’t put ours back in, but maybe it doesn’t matter and we can all save a step, LOL!

Yes!  We discovered this recipe a couple of years ago as Ugly Truffles.  So easy and yummy.  They get eaten up anywhere we take them.

I missed the scraping part.  We just crush them with the filling in them and add the cream cheese.  Maybe that’s why ours are ugly???

      • Breezy

They might have been ugly but the question is did they still taste yummy  oh yeah did they mix well and still hold together

        • http://lifeyourway.net Mandi @ Life Your Way

Apparently a lot of people make them with the filling. Our guess is that they’re a little sweeter that way!

  • Amysfinerthings

WHAT?!  You scrape the filling out??????  I don’t know if we can still be friends… ;)

Ha! That’s how I’ve always done it…I never even thought to try with the filling, LOL!

just “zap” those cookies, filling and all, in a blender or food processor until uniform in color.  Add the softened cream cheese and continue to process until uniform in color.  CHILL the dough before shaping.  shape the dough and dip and chill again -OHH SO GOOD!!!

How do they come out of the freezer when you store them there?  And would you have to store them in layers between wax paper, or once they’re hard, can you store them in mass?

I’m thinking that hiding them in the freezer is the only way I’d have any left for gifts with my three boys always on the hunt for snacks!

    Thanks for a great recipe!

Freezing them worked perfectly, and we didn’t have any issues once we thawed them!

I tried making these with my girls this morning, and had a really hard time with the chocolate dipping–it was sticking to my fingers and the balls started falling apart…what a mess!  I ended up rolling the rest in powdered sugar, but I’m wondering if you have any tips for me for the chocolate dipping step, as I’d like to try again.

Hmm, you could try sticking a toothpick in them and using that to dip them before sliding it out. Or maybe they need to go in the fridge or freezer for longer so they’ll be more solid!

Just wondering what the yield is on this recipe. Looks yummy:)

You should get somewhere around 4 dozen, depending on the size you make them!
